Ghaliya Batous

“Escaping from the unfortunate state that is my home in Aleppo, Syria, I have just moved to Lebanon recently with my husband and nine children. At 38 years old, I was surprised to discover an entire new side of life here – I now see life as a school and I long to learn as much as I can from it. I am very glad to have joined the Amel Association a few months ago since I have gained a second family in Lebanon. I currently work on artisanal crochet items such as cushions, socks and key holders. At Amel, I was surprised to receive a lot of attention and praise for my crochet work, since that has never happened before. I did not think my work was beautiful or important but the women here have shown me otherwise. Over the past few months, I have learned the right technique of crochet work and have developed a passion for my products.”
